Miralis On-Demand Dust collector control project with SyENERGY wins CIPEC Innovation Award

Ten companies that are working at the forefront of an industrial energy efficiency revolution were honoured at the Canadian Industrial Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) Leadership Awards on November 24. This signature event of the Energy 2009 conference was attended by more than 400 industry leaders. In the Process and Technology Improvements category,Miralis, a cabinetry manufacturer from St-Anaclet, Quebec won for anon-demand control system to handle dust collection needs of 125 workstations. The upgrade reduced the dust collection system’s energy consumption by 50 percent, despite a significant increase of plant production. This reduction in energy consumption represents annual savings of 2300 giga joules (GJ), or around $50,000 in electricity costs.

More than 400 participants attended Energy 2009.The conference was co-hosted by Natural Resources Canada and Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME)  a member of CIPEC and a leader in promoting energy-saving practices to industry. As Jayson Myers, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters mentioned during his opening remarks,“Energy efficiency will be the lynchpin for addressing climate change and delivering bottom-line benefits to manufacturers in theform of cost savings and productivity improvements that will make manufacturers more competitive that’s the win-win for the economy and the environment.”

Tom Ryan, SyENERGY’s Director of Market Development & Performance Analysis is proud of his company’s role in the project. SyENERGY provided full system design and support to Miralis in obtaining grants totalling more than $140,000 from Hydro-Quebec and Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency, resulting in a project payback of just over 1 year.
